HRWC will host its annual Winter Bird Watch outing on Lake Chatuge, Saturday, February 9th, starting at 7:30 AM. We will meet at Hinton Rural Life Center, a United Methodist retreat center located at the end of Hinton Center Road on Lake Chatuge in Clay County again this year.

The group will carpool from Hinton to various sites around the lake shoreline to view a wide variety of birds. Typically 18-25 different species of birds are observed on the outing, ranging from small songbirds to larger birds of prey and wintering waterfowl typically associated with more northern climes. Afterward, a full breakfast buffet, including beverage will be served at Hinton for $10/person.

Retired Young Harris College professor and former HRWC board chair, Brenda Hull will again lead the bird watch. A spotting scope is provided for up-close views, but participants should still bring binoculars and a favorite bird identification guide, if they have them.

There is no charge for the outing; participants will pay Hinton separately for breakfast, if desired. People who only wish to view birds at Hinton and have breakfast are welcome to arrive at 9:30 AM. Please RSVP for breakfast and to receive winter weather cancellation information to info@hrwc.net or call 828-837-5414 by February 6.
