The Southeastern Hellbender Conservation Initiative (SEHCI) is a project of the Working Lands for Wildlife program through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. This new cost-share program creates a win-win for agricultural producers and aquatic wildlife in priority watersheds where hellbender populations are in need of a boost. On Tuesday, November 19th, SEHCI is hosting a program about hellbenders and how to improve sustainability of agricultural operations while enhancing aquatic wildlife habitat. The event will be held at the Macon County Public Library (Franklin, NC) from 5:30 – 7:30 PM and will include presentations by:

  • NC Wildlife Resources Commission biologist, Lori Williams
  • Michael Baker Ecosystem Restoration Project Manager, Micky Clemmons
  • MountainTrue Western Regional Program Coordinator, Tony Ward
  • Natural Resources Conservation Service District Conservationist, Jeffrey Epps

A free BBQ dinner will also be provided. Please RSVP to Morgan Harris at morgan.harris@usda.gov or call 828-558-3249 by November 15th.
